My parents became wine aficionados long before wine tasting was popular. They grew into ardent lovers of California wine in the late 1960s when we lived in Lucas Valley.
Lucas Valley lies in the northernmost portion of Marin County in California, just south of Sonoma County and barely west of now-famous Napa Valley. At the tender age of 12, my parents would take me on their frequent wine country tours in this burgeoning community. No one seemed to much care about age in the late 1960s, and California’s winemakers always gave me tiny tastes of wine. It was here that my love affair with wine first began.
Now, I live in Arizona which has a burgeoning wine making community, much like Napa Valley in the 1960s. I enjoy Arizona wine with my friends and family, along with wine from California, France, Italy, Spain, Croatia, Australia, New Zealand, Virginia, Colorado…and more.
